Media technologies are a new way to communicate, collaborate and experience content. However, they also require business leaders to make important changes in strategy, culture and systems.
All industries are in danger of disruption, but it has been most evident in the media industry. It’s the reason why once powerful businesses like Tower Records and Blockbuster Video have been shut down. It’s why many newspapers are shrinking and moving online, and it’s why so many TV shows have been pulled.
In the midst of this constant industry disruption companies must be able to adapt and remain agile. In addition to being open to technological innovation and new ways of collaboration and rely on flexible, integrated systems for rapid decision-making, and more efficient outcomes.
Digital media refers to any type of data transmitted using digital data. At its most basic digital data, it is a set of binary signals (zeroes or ones) that are transmitted through digital cables or satellites, and received by devices which transform them into audios, video, graphics, texts and more. It covers everything from streaming videos and television programs on platforms like Netflix to virtual reality surgical simulators which are used in medical institutions. It also includes websites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram which allow users to interact with each other by posting pictures, video and messages.
Samantha Kutza is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in digital media technology at ESU and is ecstatic about the opportunities for career advancement that are in store for her. She acknowledges the program’s ability to provide her with a degree that is broad and an immersive experience to apply the latest technology in creative media.
